ALFI Rejects Government Proposal In Shipping Bill: Authorities Can Determine Port Tariffs Unilaterally
Jakarta - The Indonesian Logistics and Forwarders Association (ALFI/ILFA) rejects the government's proposal to delete paragraphs 1 and 5 of article 110 in the Draft Law (RUU) concerning the Third Amendment to Law no. 17 of 2008 concerning Shipping. This rejection emerged after the business group carried out a public consultation held by the Ministry of Transportation on Friday (16/8/2024).
ALFI/ILFA General Chair Akbar Djohan said that deleting these verses could open up opportunities for the Port Authority to act arbitrarily.
For him, these two articles need to be maintained so as to cover the negative impacts that will be suffered by the business world and the country. "ALFI rejects the government's proposal to delete Article 110 Paragraph (1) and Paragraph (5), because it would unilaterally set tariffs related to the use of waters and/or land as well as port services." said Akbar in a statement in Jakarta, Friday (20/9/2024).
Akbar also assessed that the removal of these verses could affect tariffs and impact the existence and sustainability of ALFI/ILFA member businesses, which number more than 4,300 companies and SMEs, with more than 100,000 employees. This does not include company members and employees from other associations, which can represent more than 10,000 companies and hundreds of thousands of employees. "Because the Authority can unilaterally set tariffs related to the use of waters and/or land as well as port services," he said.
